The 100-mm M53 field and anti-tank gun resembles the earlier Soviet 100-mm BS-3 gun (see separate database entry). Internally, the guns are sufficiently alike to fire the same ammunition; they differ in appearance and breech operation. The M53 has a horizontal sliding wedge breechblock while the BS-3 has a vertical wedge type.
