The MAHAMIRU-class was designed primarily for minehunting. The ships are also used for patrol duties. The class is based on Italy's LERICI-class minehunters. The Malaysian variant is 3 ft 3 in (1.0 m) longer; has an additional engine, shaft and propeller; and features a different main gun and electronics.
