The Heron is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) designed to provide all-weather real-time intelligence, communications relay (data/voice), maritime patrol and combat capabilities. The air vehicle can also conduct a variety of civil missions, including geological surveys, mapping and civilian communications relay.
The baseline UAV is sometimes designated the Heron 1 to differentiate it from the larger Heron TP (see "Variants," below).
