An attack by armed militiamen in western Ivory Coast has left 16 people dead, including seven U.N. peacekeepers, reports IRIN, a U.N. news service.
Gunmen ambushed peacekeepers last Friday in the village of Para in the Tai region of Ivory COast, forcing about 300 families to flee the area, witnesses said.
The defense minister vowed the military would pursue fighters across the border into Liberia in the event of another attack.
