A U.S. naval research program aims to build a full-size ship hull section made from marine-grade titanium, reports the Navy NewsStand.
The program, funded by the Office of Naval Research, will evaluate a welding innovation that could make titanium standard for future naval ship construction, said service officials.
The contractor team includes researchers at the University of New Orleans School of Naval Architecture and Textron Marine and Land Systems.
