The Pentagon has been considering dispatching U.S. forces close to the Chinese artificial islands that are being constructed in the disputed South China Sea, reports Reuters.
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter requested options that included sending military aircraft and ships within 12 nautical miles of Chinese land reclamation efforts in the Spratly islands, said an unnamed U.S. official on Tuesday.
