Top defense officials say the South Korean military does not have enough rifles for all of its reserve forces, reports the Korea Times.
The 3.2-million strong reserve has about 1 million rifles, all of which are obsolete, according to senior officials.
"Fifty percent of the rifles in the reserve forces are carbines and the remainder are M-16s," said an official at the ministry's reserves force and resource management office.
