The U.S. Navy has laid the keel for another expeditionary fast transport ship, reports the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command.
The ceremony, marking the formal start of construction, took place on Sept. 26 at the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Ala.
The Burlington (EPF 10) will be the 10th ship in the class.
The transports are designed to operate in shallow-draft ports and waterways, increasing operational flexibility for a range of activities, said NAVSEA.
