Defense Minister Wayne Mapp has confirmed that the New Zealand air force's 17 Aermacchi jet trainers cannot be returned to service, reports the Dominion Post (Wellington).
Mapp blamed "engine issues" for the state of the planes.
Accordingly, New Zealand air force pilots will only receive flight training in smaller Beech and CT-4E Airtrainer aircraft.
