The candidate backed by Hezbollah has enough votes to become Lebanon's prime minister.
Billionaire businessman Najib Mikati has been asked by the president to form a government, reports Bloomberg News.
Mikati secured 68 out of 128 parliamentary votes, to 60 for current Prime Minister Saad Hariri, a pro-Western candidate. Supporters of Hariri protested nationwide.
