The head of the Afghan ground forces has rebuffed a proposal made by Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum to raise militias to battle Taliban militants, reports the Khaama Press (Afghanistan).
Dostum has pushed a plan to recruit 20,000 militiamen to fight alongside the Afghan army against the Taliban.
Setting up parallel armed forces outside of the Afghan national security forces is unacceptable, said Gen. Murad Ali Murad, the ground forces chief, as reported by the BBC. ...
