The Cabinet has authorized the German military to expand its anti-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia, reports Deutsche Welle.
The government agreed on Wednesday to extebd the mission until December 2014, reported AFP.
German personnel will also be permitted to target inland pirate bases as part of the E.U.'s Atalanta anti-piracy mission.
Airborne attacks will now be allowed up to 1 mile (2 km) inland against weapons, ships or fuel depots, said the Cabinet.
