Australian troops in Afghanistan will receive new, lighter armored vests in the next few months, reports the Australian Dept. of Defense.
The Tiered Body Armored System, produced by Australian Defence Apparel in Victoria under a US$5.5 million contract, weighs as little as 11 pounds (5 kg), said a departmental release.
The vests are designed to accept ballistic plates of different weights based on mission requirements.
