Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel was behind a weekend strike near a Syrian airport, which housed Iranian weapons, reports the Times of Israel.
In a rare acknowledgement, Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israeli jets targeted an Iranian arms depot near Damascus International Airport.
On Friday, the Syrian military said that aircraft coming from Israeli airspace had fired several missiles near Damascus.
The strikes targeted areas around the airport and Kisweh, to the south, according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog group.
Iranian and Hezbollah movement had been reported in the area, said the observatory.
Over the past several years, Israel is believed to have carried out hundreds of strikes on Iranian and Hezbollah targets in Syria but has only acknowledged a few of them.
