BAE Systems has developed a new radar imaging system to deal with brownouts during helicopter operations, reports Defense News.
The new millimeter-wave radar-based imaging system is being offered for the Army's Brownout Landing Aid System Technology (BLAST) program.
Brownouts occur when particulate matter is kicked into the air in a dusty environment by a helicopter's rotors and obscures the pilot's view near the ground.
