The Thai armed forces comprise a mix of professional and conscript soldiers. Conscription is based on lot drawing, and those selected serve for 24 months.
The Royal Thai Army currently has four Regional Army Headquarters.
The First (Western/Central) Army consists of the 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 11th infantry divisions (the latter two in a backup role), plus the 1st support division.
