Hungary's armed forces have been dramatically reduced since the end of the Cold War. During the Cold War era, Hungary maintained a Warsaw Pact army of 160,000 troops. Today the total strength of the Hungarian armed forces numbers around 28,000 active professional officers and noncommissioned officers.
