OVERVIEW The Royal Naval Force was established in 1951 as the Royal Coast Guard. In 1952, the navy was based on the Dead Sea, but returned to its Gulf of Aqaba headquarters in 1967. In 1991, the service was renamed the Royal Naval Force.
