OVERVIEW
The Guatemalan navy is primarily responsible for coastal patrol and search-and-rescue missions. The proliferation of drug-smuggling routes along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Guatemala has kept the navy preoccupied in recent years. All coastal artillery and ground support units are provided by the Guatemalan army. Naval aviation support is a function of the air force.
