OVERVIEW The Maritime Safety Agency (Kaijo Hoancho) was renamed the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) in 2000. The JCG is under the command of the Dept. of Transportation. The primary mission of the JCG is the enforcement of laws of the seas and protection of commercial and maritime rights. The JCG consists of the following branches: Administration Dept.
