Northrop Grumman has announced the installation of its multirole electronically scanned array (MESA) radar on a new airborne early warning and control aircraft for the British Royal Air Force.

The MESA integrated with the E-7 Wedgetail Mk 1 aircraft will provide long-range sensing in support of early warning, surveillance and air battle management functionality, the company said in a release on Nov. 4.

The radar supports airborne moving target indication (MTI) missions. It can simultaneously detect, track and identify airborne and maritime adversary targets at long ranges, while maintaining continuous surveillance, Northrop Grumman officials said.

Production is underway for the second and third MESAs for British Wedgetail aircraft.
