The U.S. State Dept. has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of main battle tanks to Poland, reports the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The proposed US$3.75 billion deal covers 116 M1A1 Abrams tanks; 12 M88A2 HERCULES combat recovery vehicles; eight M1110 Joint Assault Bridges; six M577A3 command vehicles; 26 M1152A1 Humvees; and 26 M1279A1 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs).

The sale also includes various small arms, ammunition, mechanical equipment and technical and logistics support.

The potential deal would improve Poland's ability to meet current and future threats by providing a credible force capable of deterring adversaries and taking part in NATO operations.
