The Canadian Dept. of National Defense has ordered new wheeled armored vehicles to replace those donated to Ukraine, reports Defense News.

The department recently finalized a US$165 million deal with General Dynamics Land Systems Canada for 39 Armored Combat Support Vehicles in the troop cargo configuration.

The vehicles will replace 39 vehicles that Ottawa announced it was sending to Ukraine in July. Those vehicles had just been completed at the General Dynamics production line in London, Ontario.

Funding for the procurement will come from US$371 million set aside for the purchase of military equipment for Ukraine.

Canada is also developing plans to replace ammunition, anti-tank munitions, M72 rocket launchers and small arms it has sent to Ukraine.

Ottawa also sent M2 Carl Gustaf anti-tank weapons to Kyiv. The military is looking at acquiring the latest M4 version to replace those systems, a department spokeswoman said.

Officials are also looking at how to replace four 155-mm M777 towed howitzers delivered to Ukraine, since the production line has been closed.
