Boeing has released a computer-generated image depicting what the B-52H bomber will look like after upgrades, reports the War Zone website.
The Air Force’s B-52H bombers are expected to undergo major upgrades in the next few years, including larger underwing engine pods to accommodate new Rolls-Royce F130 turbofans and a new digital engine control system.
Boeing’s rendering also has a revised nose section, which will house the AN/APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.
Planned internal upgrades include two large digital multifunction displays (MDF) instead of the existing steam gauge dials in the center panel; Link-16 data links; improved GPS and low-frequency, very low-frequency and Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) communication suites.
