The Canadian navy has commissioned its second Arctic offshore patrol vessel, reports the Canadian Dept. of National Defense.
The Margaret Brooke formally entered service during a ceremony in Halifax on Oct. 28.
The Harry DeWolf-class ships are designed to conduct patrol operations in Canada’s northern waters.
The milestone comes after successful trials, including participation in Operation Nanook in August and Operation Lentus in September, the department said.
The patrol ships are armed with a 25-mm Mk 38 cannon and two M2 Browning machine guns and can reach a top speed of 17 knots.
The navy has plans to acquire eight Harry DeWolf-class vessels.
