A top Yemeni military adviser has been killed in a suspected terrorist attack in central Yemen, reports the Middle East Monitor.
On Tuesday, gunmen opened fire on Brig. Gen. Mohammad Al-Jaradi as he was on his way to Marib city in the central Marib province, said an unnamed military source.
Al-Jaradi and his driver were killed in the attack.
The Yemeni Defense Ministry said the attack was a “terrorist operation.” No group immediately claimed responsibility.
Al-Jaradi was a prominent military official in Yemen, having founded the new Yemen army in 2015.
Marib province is contested by the internationally backed Yemeni government and Houthi rebels.
