Financing issues are stalling a planned Indonesian purchase of fighter jets from the U.S., reports Bloomberg News.

Last week, Boeing executives flew to Jakarta to discuss the deal, which covers 36 F-15EX fighters and associated equipment.

In February 2022, the U.S. State Dept. approved the US$13.9 billion sale, including US$9.5 billion for the aircraft and the balance for weapons and equipment.

Indonesian officials have insisted on paying in installments but inflation and a pandemic-related budget squeeze has raised concerns about Jakarta’s ability to pay.

The meetings last week ended without a conclusive outcome, suggesting that a deal is unlike to be finalized by the end of the year as intended.
