The U.S. Navy has relieved of duty the captain of a guided-missile cruiser months after he took command, reports the service.
On Tuesday, Rear Adm. Greg Huffman fired Capt. Simon McKeon, commanding officer of USS Normandy (CG-60), citing a loss of confidence in his ability to command.
A 2nd Fleet spokeswoman told the Navy Times that there was an ongoing Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) probe related to the firing. She declined to provide further details.
McKeon took command of the Normandy in March. She is currently deployed in the Atlantic as part of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group.
The change in command would not endanger or hinder the ship’s current schedule or mission, the Navy said.
