The U.S. State Dept. has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of air-to-air missiles to Belgium, reports the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The proposed US$380 million deal covers incremental purchases of up to 120 AIM-120C8 AMRAAMs; 10 AMRAAM C8 guidance sections; spare AIM-120 control sections and containers; AIM-120C captive air-training missiles; and other associated technical and logistics support.

Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Ariz., would be the principal contractor.

The potential sale would improve Belgium’s capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining its F-16 and F-35 fighter fleets in combat-ready status, the agency said.
