40 River Patrol Boats Included In Latest Aid Package For Ukraine

The U.S. government has announced that it will send 40 riverine patrol boats as part of its newest package of aid for Ukraine, reports USNI News.

On Nov. 4, the Pentagon announced another $400 million in assistance under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which involves purchasing capabilities from industry.

The type of boats involved was not disclosed. A previous delivery of riverine boats in June included six built by Metal Shark (Jeanerette, La.).

The package also included funding to refurbish Hawk air defense missiles for inclusion in future Presidential Drawdown Authority packages; 45 refurbished T-72B tanks with advanced optics, communications and armor systems; 1,100 Phoenix Ghost tactical uncrewed aircraft systems; funding to refurbish 250 M1117 Armored Security Vehicles; secure tactical communication and surveillance systems; and funding for training, maintenance and sustainment, the Defense Dept. said in a release.
