A security guard was injured when unknown militants opened fire on the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul, reports the Khaama Press (Kabul).

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack was an attempt to assassinate Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, the head of mission at the embassy.

Nizamani was unhurt in the attack but one of his bodyguards was critically injured with three gunshot wounds to the chest, reported the Express Tribune (Karachi).

Kabul police said the embassy was targeted from a nearby building, reported Reuters. One suspect had been arrested and two firearms recovered, the police said.

The Pakistani government condemned the attack and called for an immediate and through investigation.

The Taliban Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack in a statement.

No group immediately claimed responsibility.
